856 – Marriage of Æthelwulf and Judith of Flanders
This marriage connected the house of Wessex with the Carolingians. Judith was the daughter of Charles the Bald who married an old king. Their marriage was short-lived as Æthelwulf died just two years later. Judith would go on to lead a highly interesting life of her own.
959 – Death of Eadwig
Eadwig had ruled for only four years when he died in 959. Aged only nineteen. He was succeeded by his brother, Edgar the Peaceable.
