1055 – Coronation of Theodora Porphyrogenita

Theodora was at one point considered a bride for Otto III of Germany. When he died early in 1002, Theodora’s fate was sealed in the Byzantine Empire. Until 1055 she co-ruled alongside her sister and brother-in-law. From 1055 onwards, and well into her seventies, she ruled the empire alone.
