973 – Coronation of Edgar the Peaceful

The coronation of Edgar the Peaceful took place on this day in Bath. He had already been king of England since 959, and this late, official coronation was a symbolic reaffirmation of his reign. He died only two years later. Edgar was the father of Æthelred the Unready.

1068 – Coronation of Matilda of Flanders

Matilda, daughter of Count Baldwin V of Flanders, married William the Conqueror, duke of Normandy. William was crowned king of England in 1066 after the invasion. Matilda joined him in 1068 for her own coronation at Winchester.
