1066 – Battle of Hastings

The Battle of Stamford Bridge is considered the last Viking invasion of England. It is also seen as the end of the Viking Age in England. At the battle of Hastings, however, the last English king with Scandinavian blood died, Harald Godwinsson (his mother was Danish). The new king, William, was of Scandinavian descent himself (but beyond his grandparents). So, he was really very much a Norman, a Frenchman. If anything, this battle heralded the start of a new era that was not related to Vikings anymore.
