1040 – Death of Harald Harefoot

When Cnut the Great died, factions at court did their work. Queen Emma and her children were exiled and Cnut’s son by Ælfgifu of Northampton, Harald first became a regent between 1035-37 and king from 1037-40. He died from a mysterious illness mentioned in a contemporary charter. See A Clerk of Oxford‘s blog.
