911 – Siege of Chartres, France
Chartres was attacked by Vikings as early as 858. This time, the famous Rollo attacked. On this day, the Franks broke Rollo’s siege and defeated him. Charles the Simple pursued them with his cavalry, but Rollo threw them off guard by building a defense wall of slaughtered livestock. In the end, Rollo and Charles sat down and agreed on the Treaty of Saint Claire sur Epte that made Rollo a Duke of Normandy.
