
1077 – Henry IV’s Walk to Canossa
Henry, for all means and purposes was a rather powerful figure in eleventh-century Europe. And his life’s struggle was with the Church and the Pope(s). It led to his excommunication and his public pentinence, the famous ‘Walk to Canossa’ that forced the Pope to reinstate him.
