871 – Battle of Reading
Days after the Saxon victory at the battle of Englefield, Æthelred of Wessex and Alfred move their army to the Viking’s camp at Reading. They lost the battle and the brothers had to escape to fight another day… which would come soon.
1066 – Death of Edward the Confessor
When Harthacnut passed, his half-brother Edward the Confessor became king of England until he passed away on this day in 1066. He was succeeded by Harold Godwinsson until that fateful battle of Hastings.
The day the English language was ruined 😉
