Each time I add a word to the Glossary, I want to know more about its etymology. It’s fun to discover how words and their meaning remain similar or divert in different languages over time. This is especially true for closely related languages, such as Old English and Old Norse.

Medieval languages are not in Google Translate. The OED goes a long way, but not for Old Norse. Whilst the dictionaries in the (university) libraries are still the best, the ones I worked with during my studies are now digitised and made available online. Such as those you’ll find on this website which is clearly a labour of love!
